How to Make Outdoor Cushions Without Sewing

Transform your outdoor space with inviting and comfortable cushions without the hassle of sewing. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to create stunning outdoor cushions without reaching for a needle and thread.

Materials You'll Need:

  • Durable outdoor fabric (e.g., canvas, Sunbrella, olefin)
  • Foam or cushion filling
  • Zipper (optional, for easy removal)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Fabric glue or adhesive spray (optional)
  • Ties or velcro strips (optional)

Step 1: Measure and Cut Fabric

Determine the desired size and shape of your cushions. Add 2 inches to all measurements for seams. Measure and cut your fabric accordingly.

Step 2: Create the Base

Lay one piece of fabric face up. Place your foam or cushion filling on top. Fold the edges of the fabric over the filling and secure them with fabric glue or adhesive spray. Trim any excess fabric.

Step 3: Make the Top Cover

Lay your other piece of fabric face up. Place the base cushion on top and trace around it, adding 1 inch for seam allowance. Cut out the top cover.

Step 4: Insert Zipper (Optional)

If desired, insert a zipper for easy removal of the cover. Pin the zipper to the open edge of the top cover and sew it in place. Alternatively, use fabric glue or adhesive spray to attach the zipper.

Step 5: Join the Base and Top

Flip the base cushion and place it on top of the bottom edge of the top cover. Fold the top cover over the base cushion and secure it with fabric glue or adhesive spray. Trim any excess fabric.

Step 6: Finish the Cushion

If desired, add ties or velcro strips to the corners for added security. Fluff up the cushion and enjoy your comfortable, no-sew outdoor cushions.

Tips:

* Use outdoor-rated fabric to withstand weather conditions. * Consider adding a zipper to the base for easy washing. * If using fabric glue, apply it sparingly and let it dry completely before moving on. * For a more polished look, hem the edges of the fabric before joining the base and top. * Customize your cushions with different fabrics or add decorative elements like piping or fringe.
